The
duo consisting of piano and acoustic bass is a classic combination.
The bass lays down the rhythmic foundation on which the
pianist
builds an arrangement, either impromptu or preconceived.
Both elements remain independent, yet interdependent. In
order that the
listener may fully appreciate the sonorous qualities of the bass, it is
often called upon to participate soloistically in the melody and
improvised choruses.
